Water Wars

The issue of water wars is nothing new — battles over this precious resource have been waged across the planet for thousands of years. However, many places have been enjoying times of peace and cooperation in sharing their water resources…. until now.

A great article lpublished in The New York Times today highlights some of these rising issues, mostly caused by changes in fluvial processes that will redirect or substantially reduce water resources. Since water treaties are now based on the idea that water levels and positioning will not change (“oops” as the author so eloquently says), global policies may very soon become obsolete.
